SUMMARY: The Aviation OEM Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough investigations into issues related to aviation equipment manufactured by OEMs. The investigator will analyze incidents, defects, or failures to determine root causes, assess safety implications, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead or participate in investigations into incidents, defects, or failures involving aviation equipment manufactured by OEMs.
  • Collect and analyze relevant data, including technical documentation, maintenance records, and incident reports, to identify root causes and contributing factors.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and OEM representatives as needed to gather information and collaborate on investigation efforts.
  • Conduct detailed technical analyses, including failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and reliability engineering assessments, to understand failure mechanisms and system interactions.
  • Ensure that investigation activities comply with applicable aviation regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Stay updated on regulatory requirements and guidance related to aviation equipment, incorporating relevant standards and best practices into investigation methodologies.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance investigation processes, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participate in lessons learned activities and knowledge sharing initiatives to disseminate findings and promote organizational learning.
  • Review test specifications, non-standard testing, writing of field notes, photo documentation, communication protocols with the requesting agency and hardware chain of custody.
  • Develop policies and procedures relating to accident investigations if needed.
  • Work with VSE legal team when needed.
  • Support VSE outside council and inside council on interrogatory responses and discoveries.
  • Thorough understanding of accident investigations with the OEM.
  • Strong understanding of AWARS.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, aerospace engineering, aviation technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in aviation engineering, maintenance, or safety with a focus on OEM equipment and systems.
  • OR an additional 3 years specific work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to travel on short notice required.
  • Capability to travel internationally when needed by the business.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of aircraft accessories and manufacturing processes, including familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (FAA, EASA).
  • Experience conducting investigations or root cause analyses in a safety-critical environment.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail, with the ability to systematically analyze complex technical issues and develop logical conclusions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and analytical techniques used for data analysis, modeling, and simulation.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in aviation management, aerospace engineering, aviation technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the aviation industry with accident reporting and investigations.
  • 5+ years with conducting pre-claim investigations. Legal research, and initial case assessments.
  • Proven experience working with AWARS.

OTHER

  • The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
