The Summer Internship Program is a great summer opportunity for students looking to gain professional development, hands on experience, and an overall better understanding of what career path in the hospitality industry looks like.

Each intern will work closely with and be assigned a mentor from our management team while gaining basic professional skills related to department management. Interns will meet regularly with their mentor to discuss accomplishments, areas of opportunity, and to set future goals during their internship program.

Summary

Constant hands-on attentions must be given to ensure guests safety and guest satisfaction and to minimize the potential for injury. Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers by performing the following duties. 

Intern applicants must be associated and enrolled in a university and proper classes to be considered for the intern position. Not being enrolled in classes to received college credit for work as an intern while employed at Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort will disqualify the intern applicant from the leadership position they would have held. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Ensures that each guest received outstanding guest service by providing a friendly work environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every guest and maintaining and exceeding departmental quality standards. 
  • Provide guests with a clean, safe, and fun experience while using our indoor and outdoor pool facilities. 
  • Make certain lifeguards and slide attendants are staffed and positioned as required to minimize liability to the hotel property and injury to guests. 
  • In order to ensure that newly hired guards and slide attendants are trained properly and thoroughly understand the duties that must be performed, drop-in on the staff as often as necessary to make certain that all responsibilities are being carried out. 
  •  Responsible for ensuring the proper training/certifications are carried out in an appropriate time frame consistent with resort policies. 
  • Accident/incident response: Care for any emergency & non-emergency, injury, or illness that occurs on Wilderness property. Write an incident report and perform all necessary accident investigation to minimize impact on resort and present future accidents. 
  • At times may be responsible for schedule creation, payroll, and timekeeping for department employees and temp agencies. 
  • Navigate employee incidents and issues and approach with a strong Human Resources touch to find the best possible outcome for everyone involved. 
  • Responsible for making sure all guests using the pool have a resort issues wristband. Be polite when reminding guests without a wristband to stop at the front desk to pick up wristbands. 
  • Direct and coordinate various activities designed to promote and maintain a high level of employee morale. 
  • Observe and evaluate workers' performance and completed performance reviews. 
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.
  • Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Inspect facilities for cleanliness.
  • Assist with lost children.
  • Clean swimming pools.
  • Develop a high level of resort knowledge.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
