CAPSLO Mission, Vision and Core Values

Position Summary:

Responsible for entire food service operation at the center, including; food preparation, purchasing, sanitation, housekeeping, inventory, and recordkeeping. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by ensuring that the food service operation runs smoothly and helps individuals and families in the community.
 

Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Prepares and serves meals. Participates in nutritional menu planning.

2. Develops, tests and standardizes recipes.

3. Weighs, measures and packs food to be delivered to multiple centers, ensuring food temperature and quality.

4. Maintains a semiannual inventory for food, paper goods, and equipment.

5. Estimates and develops orders monthly for kitchen staples; orders and purchases fresh items weekly.

6. Maintains records and performs data entry: Menu Production Record, Delivery Receipts, Temperature Record, and Kitchen Financial Record. Submits purchase receipts for vouching.

7. Keeps the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition throughout food preparation; cleans the kitchen thoroughly after meal service and maintains food in proper storage conditions.

8. In some cases, serves as driver for food service delivery van. Communicates with Center Supervisors and Teachers daily about the contents of each delivery.

9. Attends cook workshops and participates in career development activities such as adult education courses.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements:

1. Combination of two years of experience in institutional or commercial food services and/or culinary science education. Experience cooking for large groups is preferred. Must be able to prepare meals using whole food ingredients (cooking from ‘scratch’).

Other Requirements:

1. Must successfully complete a certified Food Safety and Sanitation class within 90 days of beginning employment.

2. Must have the knowledge and ability to cook in a healthy and nutritious manner.

3. Must be self-motivated, self-directed, and able to work with a minimum of supervision.

4. Must be able to keep records and to complete reports on time.

5. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

6. Must have the ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations, such as fractions, multiplication, division, etc.

7. Must have basic computer knowledge to perform data entry, communicate by email and submit required documents electronically.

8. Must be dedicated to the goals and objectives of CAPSLO.

9. Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national  origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.

10. Must pass a health screening and TB risk assessment prior to beginning employment.

11. Must have documented current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza.

12. Must maintain good grooming, personal cleanliness and neatness.

13. Must have dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver’s License (mileage to be reimbursed) and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.

14. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety on one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children.

15. Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check, acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement, etc. A criminal history clearance is required within seven days of completing the Live Scan.

16. Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.

17. Must understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals and performance measures of the agency.
 

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Position requires standing, walking, twisting, and bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.
