- Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification. If the associate is Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certified they must crossover to YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 180 days of employment
- Current American Safety and Health Institute Basic Life Safety (BLS), Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent course from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council). Any BLS certification is only good for one year
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- At least 16 years of age
