YMCA Camp Kenan (CampKenan.com) overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario on 50 acres near Barker, NY.


YMCA Camp Weona (CampWeona.com) is nestled among 800 acres of hills and forests in Gainesville, NY.  


Camp activities include swimming, archery, low & high ropes challenges, climbing wall, gaga ball, arts & crats, nature, science, and more.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Cook oversees the safe and sanitary operation of the camp kitchen, plans and implements a healthy camp menu, providing food service for camp residents, and guidance and leadership to staff and campers. 

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Saturday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 23, 2024, 7 weeks of program, and concludes on August 17, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans and implements the menu and food preparation plan. Prepares meals as per the schedule.
  2. Provides excellent customer service to all groups, campers, and staff.
  3. Maintains a clean kitchen, including the cooler, freezer, and storeroom.
  4. Places orders and maintains the inventory of all food and food related supplies within the assigned expense budget.
  5. Follows and enforces department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Ensures PPE compliance.
  6. Trains and supervises all food service staff.
  7. Notifies sales representatives and the program director of food shortages, spoilage, or damage in deliveries.
  8. Completes all paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  9. Ensures that all food service staff maintain cleanliness standards. Sends staff to the health director immediately if presenting symptoms of illness.
  10. Maintains a clean and neat appearance while on duty.
  11. Understands and implements NYS Department of Health and ACA standards.
  12. Carries out other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have considerable work experience as a cook, preferably in a supervisory role.
  3. Must have valid Servsafe certification.
  4. Have the desire and the ability to work around children in a fast-paced recreational environment.
  5. Abe to read, write, understand, and communicate directions.
  6. Able to respond to emergency situations.
  7. Understanding of NYS Department of Health regulations related to food service.
  8. Have good judgement with the ability to identify problems and find acceptable solutions.
Daily pay rate:  $100
