Assistant Swim Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the swim instructor at the Southtowns Family YMCA to deliver YMCA swim lessons to participants in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. This is a part-time position.
Must be available to work Monday – Friday between 4:45 pm – 7:45 pm, and weekends from 8:45 am – 2:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructs participants in swim class, following direction by the swim instructor, in accordance with the YMCA swim lesson program design.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and assists in emergency situations. Aids swimmers when necessary.
- Documents swim lesson skill achievement and attendance. Completes and distributes participant completion forms.
- Is alert, friendly and responsive to participants, parents, and co-workers.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area.
- Follows department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas.
- Attends staff training sessions to practice skills and learn program standards.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Ability to swim in compliance with YMCA program standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups.
- Ability to follow direction and enforce safety rules.
