POSITION SUMMARY:

The lead custodian performs cleaning and maintenance tasks and directs the overnight cleaning crew at the Lockport Family YMCA. This is a full-time position.

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

The incumbent will be scheduled to work 5 days/40 hours per week.  The shift is overnight, 7:00 pm - 3:30 am. The typical weekly schedule is Monday through Friday however availability to work weekends to cover for absences is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintains the cleanliness of the facility and ensures that cleanliness standards are met.
  2. Provides leadership and direction to overnight custodial staff.  Trains and provides instructions so that staff are prepared to perform their duties effectively.                                                          
  3. Ensures that cleanliness standards are met/exceeded.
  4. Follows and enforces department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Enforces PPE compliance.
  5. Responsible for managing staff attendance, fills in for absences.
  6. Cleans all floors. Dry/wet mops, strips, and waxes hard floors.  Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
  7. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and locker rooms.
  8. Empties trash and recycling containers.
  9. Washes windows, dusts surfaces.
  10. Cleans and maintains the swimming pool, spa, and sauna according to directions.
  11. Performs minor maintenance repairs as needed such as painting, changing light bulbs, etc.
  12. Is knowledgeable of and follows all YMCA and OSHA safety standards. Wears personal protective equipment when required to do so.
  13. Maintains the cleanliness of the grounds. Clears walkways, removes garbage, performs minor landscaping tasks.
  14. Carries out other tasks as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. One (1) year of experience in housekeeping or custodial with the ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  2. Experience supervising staff preferred.
  3. General knowledge of cleaning supplies and their use.
  4. Positive attitude and reliable.
  5. Ability to work with diverse populations and get along well with others.
  6. Good judgement, with the ability to identify problems and take the initiative to find acceptable solutions.
  7. Ability to respond to emergency situations.
