POSITION SUMMARY:
Facilitates communication between hearing and deaf or hard of hearing individuals in classrooms and meetings using American Sign Language or other manual sign system; serves as a liaison between deaf or hard of hearing students, hearing students and instructors; and performs related work as required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Providing interpret interpreting services for deaf/hard-of-hearing candidates, associates, members, and program participants.
- Providing voice interpreting as needed.
- Providing interpreting for association functions outside the program, if needed.
- Serving as a liaison to promote good public relations between the deaf/hard of hearing candidates, associates, members, and program participants.
- Conferring with program directors of the deaf/hard of hearing in order to better prepare for interpreting services.
- Assisting with the collection and correlation of materials used in both the regular and the deaf/hard of hearing work.
- Exhibiting an interest for self-improvement in signing ability, interpreting skills and establishing a better understanding of the process.
- Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- High school graduate or equivalent (SACS requirement)
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of EIE level I or QA level.
- ASLPI (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview score of a 3 or higher
- Experience with (in) the deaf population (community)
- Must be able to relate to population served.
SKILLS
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of associates, members, and program participants across the organization
- Ability to work across the organization with diverse set of leaders to create efficient systems and clear, consistent internal communication
- Self-starter with initiative to work independently
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use effective decision making skills
