Purpose:      

The Board Manager, a senior leader on the St. Johnsbury campus management team, ensures that production of products and processes meet or exceed safety, quality, service and productivity expectations.  This will be accomplished by upholding company values, relentless continuous improvement, driving a team building environment and collaborating closely with other leaders.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate all board production activities, ensuring goals and objectives are met.
  2. Lead and support leadership development of Board Supervision and Team Leader staff in coordination with company culture and leadership initiatives.
  3. Lead and maintain a safe and satisfying work environment through emphasis on accident prevention, oversight of department safety policies and/or procedures, task management of safety committees and involvement in safety investigations.
  4. Achieve total customer satisfaction by meeting the production schedule, adjusting as necessary to changes in customer requirements through frequent contact with Production Planning.
  5. that procedures and job expectations are defined and employees receive adequate communication training and evaluations.
  6. Achieve a capital budget that supports business goals and manage to monthly forecast.

  9. 10. Ensure board equipment and processes are available; maintained and capable of producing planned result.

Ensure quality management system (QMS) requirements are met by providing training opportunities, communicating requirements, monitoring the productivity throughput of each department using formal reports and detailed observations including “management by walking around” and taking timely corrective action.
  11. 12. Evaluate actual versus planned results and initiate corrective or preventative action as required. Lead and follow through on Safety and Quality RCA ‘s.
  12. 14. Ensures that problems, errors and/or defects that surface in regard to products, documentation, procedures or materials are promptly brought to attention for correction.

  14. 16. Plan and implement business systems and technical projects to increase overall plant efficiency and capability. Seek assistance from department supervisors, engineers and other resources, internal and external.
  15. 17. Plan effective shutdowns to facilitate preventive maintenance programs to maximize production.
  16. 18. Provide short term and long term systems and equipment requirements based on technological and other changes related to internal and external business changes. Continually review marketplace needs.
  17. 19. Provide the resources, organizational development and leadership to enable the plant workforce to be participative, productive, energetic and team oriented. Must project capability, confidence and trust with a focus on continuous improvement.
  18. 20. Plan and implement a training system for plant employees to increase skills in business, operations technology and on the job.

Job Requirements:           

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Pulp and Paper Science or Operations Management with experience running a board or papermill (cylinder experience preferred).
  2. Minimum of 15 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  3. Proven success in career progression into a senior leadership role.
  4. Experience in 24/7 operation a plus.
  5. Proven leader who can motivate and mentor supervisory teams; works at an appropriate level and delegates responsibility.
  6. Comprehensive understanding and experience utilizing LSS methodology. Green Belt certification preferred.
  7. Ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively across functions and synthesize multiple points of view into a streamlined action plan.
  8. critical thinking and able to drive change through conflict resolution and management to all levels of the organization.
  9. Possess confidence and humility.
  10. Must have the ability to travel both domestically and globally.
