Diesel Technician Level 1

Job Summary:

The Level 1 Diesel Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a fleet of diesel-powered vehicles.  Under the supervision of experienced technicians this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and trailers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire

  • rotations.

  • Conduct inspections to identify and diagnose minor mechanical issues according to Department of Transportation (DOT) Standards.

  • Assist senior technicians in making necessary repairs and adjustments.

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Comply with safety guidelines and federal and state regulations at all times.

  • Use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment.

  • Read precision instruments such as voltmeters, digital multimeters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools.

  • Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the truck.

  • Communicate with drivers, dispatchers and management to determine which repairs are necessary, determine priority and provide estimated time of completion.

  • Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA rules and regulations.

  • Travel within designated region for service calls and temporary roadside maintenance

  • Participate in training programs to develop technical skills.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Education/Knowledge/Experience/Abilities:

           Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record.

  • Must be able to pass Department of Transportation alcohol and drug screen.

  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines and automotive systems.

  • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Ability to read and understand technical service manuals. 

  • Ability to operate and interpret industry standard diagnostic software for heavy duty truck tractors. 

    Preferred:

  • Vocational or Technical training in diesel mechanics, welding, or a related field

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) 

  • Knowledge of Cummings Insite and PACCAR Davie software

  • 1 year related experience
