Dispatch - Driver Supervisor

Job Summary:

This is a position involving the management and dispatch of over the road drivers, regional drivers, and Contract Carriers. It is the Driver Supervisor's responsibility to provide direct oversight to the drivers and resources assigned to their board to ensure we are providing customers with the highest level of service while operating profitably in accordance with DOT regulations. This job includes the management of numerous aspects of Western Dairy Transport's fleet. 

Supervisory Scope:

Over The Road (OTR) and Regional Drivers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answer the phone in a professional manner.

  • Capture all load information and maintain TMW in real time.

  • Check all loads daily for on time delivery and communicate with Planners and Customer Service Representatives on any issues.

  • Determine daily capacity of carriers and company drivers through check calls , hours of service, etc and maintain a daily list of assets and their locations.

  • Supervise company drivers efficiently by using PeopleNet tools including but not limited to on time performance, preferred routes, unauthorized stops, accuracy of detention requests, and truck performance.

  • Dispatch and manage company drivers by using PeopleNet/check calls and work with Planners to set up rounds.

  • Maintain Totalmail in a timely manner by responding to driver messages, correcting errors, processing detention requests, and determining drivers who aren't utilizing it.

  • Coach and mentor drivers. Help resolve any issues the driver may encounter.

  • Document driver service failures in Dayforce.

  • Maintain a current list of assigned trucks for your drivers.

  • Dispatch carriers based out of your geographical area via phone calls and either emailing or faxing rate confirmations with approved rates from Planners or Customer Service Representatives.

  • Provide AM/PM yard checks at the dairies and drop yards and compare with the schedules to ensure loads are picked up in a timely fashion and that the oldest milk is being moved first.

  • Maintain adequate numbers of loadable trailers at these locations.

  • Utilize Lat-Lon to track loads, ensure efficient use of all trailer inventories.

  • Work with Safety to ensure drivers and assigned resources are in accordance with all DOT regulations. Also assist in relaying appropriate information such as drug screens, safety meetings, regulation updates, etc to company drivers.

  • Work with Maintenance to fix equipment issues and schedule routine maintenance.

Weekly/Monthly Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Review Driver/Truck Performance

 1.Average miles 

 2. Deadhead Percentage

 3. Customer service Late/Missed loads

  • Review driver's license and DOT physical status and remind drivers to renew with Safety.

  • Schedule drivers for random DOT drug screens as needed.

  • Schedule drivers home time/vacation time as needed.

  • Review truck idle time and truck utilization reports to better utilize equipment.

Skills/Education/Knowledge/Expereience/Abilities

Required:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • The ability to independently make accurate decisions and analyze risk.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
