Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
 
 

We are in search of new talent in the following position…

Position: Community Care Liaison

 

The Community Care Liaison is responsible for engaging clients to accept and participate in the Community Engagement & Employment Program, researching engagement and employment opportunities in the community, and developing community relationships.

 

The Schwartz Assessment Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. To learn more about the program, copy and paste this link into a browser https://www.voa-gny.org/housing

Location: 65 Charles Gay Loop • Wards Island, NY 10035

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of relevant shelter experience.
  • The position also requires a demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.  
  • Clean and valid driver’s license preferred.

 

Community Care Liaison Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor and maintain required information for client attendance, participation, program completion and three months post placement. 
  2. Develop resource binder for communities in which residents will reside and create employment linkages, and linkages to other offsite services.
  3. Assist with job placement and internships, as well as provide advocacy and support for employment retention.
  4. Escort clients to appointments and offsite events. Coordinate special events, graduations and activities.
  5. Conduct trainings and facilitate groups.
  6. Focus on the Good Neighbor Policy - developing relationships with businesses and providers in the community. Dispatching the engagement team to Hot Spots.
