Reporting to the Senior Director of Software Engineering and Data Platforms, the Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading one of two foundational engineering groups. This role will oversee every aspect of the engineering and delivery processes and drive the velocity of teams toward achievement of strategic objectives. This role will also work cross-functionally with Product, Agile, UX, and other business stakeholders to ensure that products and services are delivered on-time and with high quality. This role oversees engineering leaders and provides strategic leadership as well as support for technical execution 

The work location for this role is flexible if approved by UniGroup except this position may not be performed remotely from Colorado.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Prioritizes hiring efforts and effectively recruits top engineering talent. 
•Ensures teams have the proper tools, resources, and training to execute their responsibilities. 
•Partners closely with Principal Engineer and Product Lead to develop strategies and initiatives with team(s) to advance business and technical priorities.  
•Spends ~30% of time reviewing code and developing software with the team.  
•Communicates technically complicated and abstract topics to business and product teams effectively.  
•Assures teams meet the required objectives, quality, and timelines committed. 
•Leads or assists in the evaluation of 3rd party vendors and the subsequent optimization of software tools/technology solutions.  
•Creates and maintains technology roadmaps.  
•Develops strong relationships with department leaders and cross-functional groups, including Product, Agile, UX, and other business stakeholders. 
•Develops leadership skills within the organization and mentors other leaders.  
•Owns development, measurement, and management of key metrics for group performance; responsible for driving development velocity.  
•Standardizes the core development process, practices, and implementations. 
•Communicates across multiple levels and verticals to motivate and provide strategic leadership. 
•Partners with the Product Leadership and business stakeholders to estimate work to support prioritization efforts. 
•Provides actionable technical plans that remove obstacles and create realistic timelines that empower the engineer; provides input for testing and implementation planning. 
•Collaborates across several teams on their engineering work and helps team members make informed decisions in alignment with the sub-department strategic plans. 
 
Qualifications:
Education, License or Certification: 
•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 
Experience: 
•3+ years of managing engineering teams 
•5+ years of experience with full-stack application development using technologies and languages such as React, React Native, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, and/or Kotlin. 
•Proven success working in technology leadership roles 
•Experience in Agile development methodologies and technical project management
