Store Clerk/Customer Service Representative
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Store Clerk/Customer Service Representative for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Responsible for selling, attending to customers, merchandising, pricing and restocking of goods in the Supplies & Purchasing Department retail store. Includes coordinating all activities related to the standard operations of a professional retail store. Responsible for sales staff training as needed. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Receives and processes orders and requests from customers through phone, e-mail, and in-person in an accurate and timely manner; assists customers in a courteous and tactful manner, processes orders according to departmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service. Knowledge of general office, retail and inventory practices and procedures. Knowledge of stock numbers, descriptions, prices and availability. Knowledge of fitting Men and Women’s clothing including, shirts, blouses, slacks, jackets, and coats. Ability to learn and understand the general practices, policies and procedures of The Salvation Army ministry and organization. Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items may be retrieved in a timely manner. Ability to process customers’ orders in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Ability to resolve customer inquiries and/or problems in a calm, courteous, tactful and timely manner. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to sort items in numerical and alphabetical order. Ability to follow instructions with limited supervision. Ability to operate a computer and various office equipment. Ability to operate a cash register, compute discounts and count change. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with frequent breaks in routine associated with answering phones or speaking in person to customers and vendors.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. required and Three to five years of experience in a clothing store or similar operation assisting customers with size and fit. or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
License and Certification Requirements:
Valid State of Georgia Driver’s license.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Physical ability to carry and /or lift/push/pull objects up to 25 lbs. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by occasional periods of standing or walking as related to necessary tasks. Work is performed in a busy office, stockroom and/or warehouse environment with little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather and occasional physical discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.
