The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Red Shield Services for the Metro Atlanta Area Command, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Job Summary

Plans, directs, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day operations of the Red Shield Program and facility providing a variety of social service programs; develops, implements, and evaluates program operations and services; supervises all program staff and ensures work is in compliance with established policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations; researches and prepares grant proposals and secures program funding; prepares and monitors program expenditures in compliance with program budget.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of social services program development and administration. Knowledge of the procedures for applying for, securing, and maintaining grant funding. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing social service programs, Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention counseling, Knowledge of social service resources. Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices, Knowledge of the principles and, Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate, personnel, Ability to provide leadership in the community to promote program services. Ability to perform public speaking. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce program policies and procedures, Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during state, Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors, Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines. Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients and community agencies.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university


Seven- Ten years’ experience specifically working in all areas of social service program administration including staff development, program development, budget administration, grant writing and contract compliance


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to perform public speaking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (lessthan25lbs.)5-10%of worktime. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomfort associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
