Fitness & Athletics Attendant
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Fitness/Athletics Attendant in the Hampton Roads Area Command Kroc Center.
Plans, instructs, and leads members participating in athletic activities, sporting events, and fitness activities ensuring exceptional service; ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of all fitness and athletic equipment; promotes good sportsmanship, proper exercise techniques, and nutrition habits.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Two years’ experience leading fitness activities, coaching sporting events, and working with children in a related environment,
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ACSM Health Fitness Instructor certification (preferred)
ACE Exercise Instructor Certification (preferred)
Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED Certification within first 30 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective fitness/nutrition programs.
Knowledge of the fundamentals, rules and practices of modern sports to include football, baseball, and basketball.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of good sportsmanship.
Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.
Knowledge of the proper methods and procedures for maintaining equipment.
Ability to lead, instruct, control, and motivate members.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to implement and enforce program policies and procedures.
Ability to meet quality standards and deadlines.
Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients.
Ability to work with members of all ages and to promote teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Ability to resolve and/or defuse disagreements or fights between children.
Mental and Physical Abilities
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to perform duties with a combination of frequent sitting, standing and walking.
Ability to participate in a variety of sporting events including throwing and catching a ball, running and jumping.
Physical effort required associated with walking, running, standing, and moderate-to-advanced weightlifting a fitness center environment.
Work is performed in a combination of office and field settings. Frequently required to sit and reach; and must be able to move around the work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work will typically be indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office or location, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions. Work may require performance of duties where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible. Use of a computer is required; and the ability to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities is required.
