The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Full Time Employment Specialist for the Fort Myers Area Command, located in Fort Myers, Florida
Medical, dental, vision, PTO, pension and 403b with employer match is available for all full-time employees.
Plans, coordinates, and monitors the employment functions for clients of a Salvation Army program, i.e., Federal Residential Correction Program or Social Service Transitional Living Program; monitors the resident’s adjustment and overall progress in the program; conducts orientation meetings, job readiness training sessions and counseling, employment referrals, and work-site visits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of rehabilitative counseling.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of employment placement and recruitment.
Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.
Ability to evaluate the skills and qualifications of residents in order to determine suitable employment.
Ability to serve as an advocate for program residents and securing appropriate employment in a timely manner.
Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to interview residents and to obtain pertinent information.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete case notes and client records.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with residents and community organizations employing residents.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, or Rehabilitative Counseling and three years’ experience performing counseling work in a correction/rehabilitative setting or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver's License required.
Ability to attain American Red Cross C.P.R./First Aid Certificate and HRS Aides Training Certificate upon employment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to drive a vehicle.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to think clearly and quickly in order to maintain control of resident caseload.
Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple cases at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures and driving a vehicle in moderate to heavy traffic.
