Job Summary

 

Subscribes to, adheres to, and shares the Doctrines, Mission, and Positions of The Salvation Army Serves as an evangelist to the community and constituency of the Corps; develops and leads worship services and ministerial programs; provides spiritual guidance and leadership to the same. Serve the Corps by assisting the Corps Officer in planning, coordinating, administrating, monitoring, evaluating, and developing the day-to-day operations of the Corps; develops and leads religious programs; participates in Boys & Girls Club programs providing a bridge between club and corps programming; coordinates arrangements for seasonal programs, and recruits/supervises volunteers for the same; Supervises and schedules Corps groups, Boys & Girls Club teen center, and community outreach programs; monitors and maintains adequate financing and budgetary compliance of the Corps operations. Participates in providing assistance to people in need.

Serves as an evangelist through the proclamation of Jesus Christ as redeemer with the intent of impacting the lives of men and women through spiritual regeneration; promotes membership into the body of Christ which includes but is not limited to The Salvation Army.

 

Assists Corps Officer and Program Coordinator in planning and implementing worship and outreach programs for the corps that reaches across all age groups.

 

Plans, develops, prepares, and leads specific youth ministries programs; leads or assists with regular meetings for corps & Boys & Girls Club teen center; prepares and coordinates or assists with production of Christian program materials and newsletters; teach teen Sunday School class, corps cadets.

 

Assists and partners with the Corps Officer(s) in developing Salvation Army evangelical mission outreach and growth; assesses local community needs and advises Corps Officer of findings; identifies specific areas to target for outreach growth; encourages and helps to train corps members for mission; develops a corps mission team where possible.

 

Assists in developing, leading and/or supporting Salvation Army evangelical mission programs and ministries in corps/club; plans, develops and coordinates bridging events between corps and persons served in clubs, and social services.

 

 

Visits individuals and groups in the local community in order to establish a presence in the community and to increase awareness of Salvation Army ministries/programs; builds personal and professional relationships in order to learn firsthand the needs of the local community.

 

Communicates research findings as well as pertinent information about the local community to the Corps Officer; prepares and provides regular progress reports; maintains statistics on program and ministry participants and corps/ Salvation Army evangelical mission growth.

 

Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates program services based on changing needs of clientele.

 

Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers for Corps programs.

 

Sets an example for the Corps by being a Salvationist in Good Standing and participating on a regular basis in Corps programs.

 

Serves as an advocate for ensuring the divisional and local representatives, leadership, and program participants are aware of defined goals and requirements; works cooperatively and effectively with local management and participants to ensure goals are met.

 

Assists in the promotion of Corps growth goals and plans as well as Army programs and services in the community.

 

Boys & Girls Club Outreach Responsibilities

 

Supervise and organizes teen center programs four days a week that are in line with the goals and objectives of the organization and the program standards of Boys & Girls Club

Assists in recruitment, selections and training of Teen Program volunteers, youth leaders and staff.

Recommends and requisitions supplies for the Teen program activities, in accordance with Club policy.

Prepares and submits all required reports on Program activities and attendance.

Supervises the care and maintenance of TC equipment, facilities and supplies.

Responsible for the daily clean-up of TC program equipment, facilities and supplies.

Provides formal and informal guidance to individual youth at all times.

Ensures age group and gender appropriate activities.

Assists with special events.

 

 

Other Responsibilities

 

May drive Salvation Army vehicle to transport Corps members to/from Corps programs; operates vehicles in compliance with established policies and procedures.

 

Attend and participate in regularly scheduled in-servive training sessions.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army.

 

Knowledge of Bible and its message in order to teach lessons and lead others to Christ.

 

Knowledge of social service program development and specifically Christian program development with goal of leading others to Christ.

 

Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s regulations and organizational structure.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service program administration.

Knowledge of the general principles associated with computer word processing and database management.

 

Ability to serve as an example of Salvationism and Christian stewardship and to demonstrate interest in the spiritual well-being of all personnel.

 

Ability to conduct all activities of the position with a view to accomplishing the Army’s fundamental purpose of proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, which purpose must find expression in both the message proclaimed and the ministry of service performed.

 

Ability to visit with people in the community with goal of building relationships and trust which will lead to invitations to participate in corps programs and missions.

 

Ability to analyze local community needs in order to make recommendations to the Corp Officer regarding areas to target for corps growth as well as programs and ministries to be developed that match community needs.

 

Ability to conduct thorough research and to prepare and maintain accurate and complete reports in a timely manner.

 

Ability to develop means for measuring effectiveness of programs, ministries and outreach/in reach efforts.

 

Ability to provide informative and accurate progress reports and statistical data.

 

Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment with limited supervision.

 

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information associated with this position.

 

Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position consistent with the principles, standards, and Orders and Regulations of The Salvation Army.

 

Ability to conduct the affairs of this office responsibly, efficiently, and economically and to motivate the staff to do likewise.

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience

 

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field,

 

and

 

Three years’ experience performing mission work or experience participating in program development for a church or corps

 

Or

 

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

Licenses & Certifications

 

Valid State Driver’s License

 

Bon-a-fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ):

 

This position requires an active, uniform-wearing Salvationist in good standing

 

Physical Requirements

 

Constant amount of physical effort required associated with hand movement, holding, finger dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, vision, hearing, talking and sitting at least 90% of the work time; rare to occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching at least 30% of the work time. 

 

Working Conditions

 

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

 

Work requires travel in order to conduct community and home visits.
