JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:            
 PROGRAM AIDE

 

INCUMBENT:        

 

REPORTS TO:         Unit
Director

 

LOCATION:             BOYS & GIRLS

 

FLSA STATUS:        NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Assists in transporting children from school to the club, helping children with homework and assists in facilitating and monitoring recreational activities of the Boys & Girls Club.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in the job description.

 

  • Assist in opening and closing the club in compliance with established operating hours; ensures the center is properly secure during non-operating hours.
  • Assists in helping children with homework.
  • Assists in supervising children while involved in activities in the game room, outside ball fields, and gymnasium.
  • Assists in preparing and serving snacks, cleans dining area and kitchen, inventories and rotates food supplies and stock.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Club facilities and grounds.
  • Assists with all other existing programs and with the implementation of new programs.
  • Monitors the check-in and check-out process of children.
  • Assists in promoting new club memberships.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Performs other related work as required by the Unit Director or Executive Director.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High School diploma or G.E.D.

 

 

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Child Development or a related field preferred.

or

  • Two years experience in for profit or non-profit education or care targeted to child development.

or

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities

  • Have the ability to relate to people in a friendly, diplomatic, and professional manner. Energetic, self-motivated and organized.

  • Ability to handle emotional situations in a calm and kind manner.

  • Have the ability to assess, analyze, and solve independently a wide variety of moderately difficult situations and problems.
  • Flexible and creative.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

Have a valid North
Carolina Driver License with a good driving record.

 

Boys and Girls Club Certification is encouraged after employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Have the ability to relate to children in a friendly, diplomatic, and professional manner. Energetic, self-motivated and organized.

  • Have the ability to handle emotional situations in a calm and kind manner.

  • Have the ability to assess, analyze, and meet the general needs of children in a school bus setting.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of youth games.
  • Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise youth games.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with youth.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of youth participants.
  • Ability to represent The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in a professional manner and promote the mission of the Club.
  • Ability to work with and encourage young people from “at risk” environments.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with youth.

 

 

 

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and analysis needed for accurate statistical reporting.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Work is normally performed in an elementary school bus environment where there are elementary school aged children being transported from school to the Boys & Girls Club
  • Work is normally performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
