About the Job

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Cook for the Charlotte Area Command, Women’s and Childrens Shelter, located in Charlotte, NC.  

Job Summary

Provide food services to clients in residence at the Women and Children's Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing for Families
 

Knowledge and Skills

Have the ability to write and speak the English language.

Knowledge of cooking procedures

Knowledge of cleaning fundamentals

Knowledge of the food and health regulations 

Ability to work well with homeless population

Ability to organize work priorities.

Ability to meet job attendance requirements as designated. 

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. 

Must be capable of understanding and interpreting the mission of The Salvation Army and its shelter programs.  Ability to communicate effectively with other people.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED certificate. Cooking experience a plus..

Licenses and Certifications

Clean TB test required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Position requires office and shelter environment mainly indoors.  The Salvation Army strives to have an environment free from the presence or use of alcohol, drugs or other controlled substances.  All Salvation Army facilities and vehicles provide a smoke free environment.  Position may encounter stressful situations.
