Housing Monitor

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Housing Monitor for our Bentonville Arkansas homeless shelter.

 

Job Summary

 

Supervises and participates in performing the day-to-day activities necessary for the smooth operation of a lodge facility providing housing, food, transportation, counseling, and educational assistance; ensures that paperwork is completed, and house rules are followed by all clients; ensures compliance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations.

General Responsibilities (95%)

This position requires living on the premises and on-call availability during sleep time.

Ensures that all rooms are in proper order before arrival of residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order.

Checks clients into the housing facility; orients new clients to the program and prepares case records to facilitate case management; records daily statistics.

Distributes towels, linens, and personal hygiene items; secures and distributes client medications as required.

Monitors the activities of the resident’s, ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.

Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Opens and closes the house doors at designated hours of operation.

Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists; prepares, tallies, and balances monies with receipts.

Assigns housekeeping and other tasks to residents; ensures that clients perform assigned house duties in the proper manner; ensures compliance with house rules.

Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the housing operations.

Wakes up clients at designated time and instructs them to collect their sheets; ensures that all residents are

Gives input for the purchasing of food for lodge use; prepares breakfast and dinner for lodge residents and walk-in homeless clients in the nightly Soup Kitchen

Maintains an adequate level of food and supplies inventory; prepares inventory records and ensures the accountability and security of inventory items.

Other Responsibilities (5%)                                                                                                                            

 

Collects and washes all dirty towels and sheets.

Receives and processes donations received.

Conducts house meetings, devotions and group activities with clients.

Plans, schedules, and assigns daily chores to be carried out by clients.

Reviews fire and safety systems daily to verify proper working order of equipment, ensures the safety of clients.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.

Knowledge of basic record keeping practices and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients in order to control, lead, and motivate behavior.

Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.

Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date computer records.

 

Education and Experience

 

High School diploma or G.E.D. AND two years’ experience working in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions   

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.

Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building or grounds.

Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (up to 100 lbs.) 50% of work time.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a lodge facility where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
