The Salvation Army is seeking an experienced Director of Major Gifts (Divisional Resource Development Director) in Jackson, MS to lead, manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward the major gifts program in the Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division.

About this opportunity:

This Divisional Resource Development Director position will lead, train and mentor a team of professionals to raise funds to enable the mission of The Salvation Army in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will develop and nurture current and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, government agencies, and corporations in an assigned geographic region of the Division.
  • Respond to inquiries and communicate with donors, advisory organization members, Salvation Army employees and leaders.
  • The position has direct oversight for a team of professionals and will be responsible for training, mentoring and accountability of its members.  
  • There is required day and overnight travel within the three-state region and covering these areas (Jackson, Vicksburg, Monroe, and Shreveport).
  • This position will be based in Jackson, MS.  

You are an ideal match for the role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in a related field of study) and five years’ experience performing progressively responsible fundraising work in a charitable organization with demonstrated successful fundraising and donor relations, and three years’ supervisory work in a major gifts environment.
  • Experience in leading a team of fund-raising professionals.
  • Proven history of establishing and maintaining strong long-term donor relationships.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Track record of achieving goals.
  • Prior experience with a donor management system.
  • Managing own travel based on donor visits.

 

Bona-fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ)

This position requires an active Christian faith in harmony with Salvation Army doctrine and practice.

 

License/Certifications

Valid State Driver’s License

CFRE and/or CFRM desired

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Manual dexterity.  Ability to sit, walk and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position.  Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.  Must live in or be willing to relocate to the travel area required for the position.  Ability to travel throughout the Division, by automobile, on a regular basis to work with Regional Resource Development Directors, their donors/prospects and professionals of their communities.  Travel requirements are up to 60% of work time.  May include overnight travel commitments.

 

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt and the like.  Work is also performed from a home office and in a variety of office settings in multiple Corps or Area Command offices.
