JOB SUMMARY:

 

Monitors the behavior and activities of clients participating in a Salvation Army emergency housing program; guards the security and safety of Salvation Army facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with shelter rules and policies and to protect the safety of staff and clients.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Answers phone calls, takes messages, and logs all calls properly.

 

Distributes to-go meals to residents who come in late after work.

 

Participates in staff in-service training and mandatory meetings, as directed.

 

Washes linen as needed when laundry personnel is unavailable.

 

Completes daily cleanliness checklist.

 

Performs other related work as required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required,

 

and

 

six months experience working with the public with experience working in a security or social service environment preferred,

 

or

 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

First Aid and C.P.R. Certification, Narcan training

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of security practices and procedures.

 Ability to influence and control human behavior and enforce security rules and guidelines.

Ability to respond to emergencies quickly, calmly, and effectively while maintaining control and initiating corrective actions.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (less than 25 – 50lbs) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderately mobility: duties are usually performed by a combination of standing and waking on a frequent change basis.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work is performed in a regular social service housing and office environment where there are moderate discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
