THE SALVATION ARMY JOB DESCRIPTION – Dining Room Attendant/Dishwasher

 

Job Summary 

Assists in the preparation and serving of meals; coordinates the cleaning of the kitchen and dining area; maintains inventory. 

 

Essential Functions 

Assists in preparing meals, beverages and snacks; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; assists in the preparation of special meals to include picnics, guest dinners, etc.

 

Coordinates the timing of camper meals with the music leader.

 

Assists in serving meals ensuring appropriate proportions are provided; provides meal counts to the Dining Hall Manager.

 

Maintains inventory; ensure items are stocked and organized with supplies; advised the Dining Hall Manager of any needs.

 

Coordinates the cleaning of the dining hall to include: sweeping, mopping, polishing and waxing the kitchen and dining room floors.  Ensures the cleanliness of the tables, chairs, condiment holders, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens.

 

Responsible for dishwasher duties and ensuring all dishware and items used in food preparation are cleaned after each meal. This responsibility includes Inspecting the cleanliness of all dishes and silverware.

 

Maintains awareness of the dining area to ensure safety, fire and health policies and procedures are observed at all times; reports any deviation to the Dining Hall Manager.

 

Coordinates the disposal of trash and recyclables. 

 

Other Responsibilities:

Assists in making special arrangements for special events and/or programs.

 

Performs other related work as required.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques.  

 

Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.

 

Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances.

 

Ability to clean kitchen and dining area.

 

Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth.

 

Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.

 

Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

 

Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

 

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

 

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety. 

 

Education and Experience

Six months experience working in a kitchen preferred,

 

or

 

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Certifications

Certified in first aid and CPR

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Camp Dining Room Attendant position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate dining room equipment and activities are required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.  Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/5/2024 – 6/9/2024 and participation is required.

 

The 2024 Summer Camp program will be held 6/10/2024-7/13/2024.  If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
