After School Tutor

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for an After School Tutor for the Fran Cohen Youth Center located in Naples, Florida.

Job Summary - 

Assists, instructs, and evaluates children in the academic areas in which they are weak so they may better understand and perform the skills in those areas; confers directly with the student’s parents regarding the student’s progress. Conducts individual and group tutoring sessions with students; prepares various reports documenting the student’s progress and shares the same with parents and others as necessary. Supervises children, implements activities, maintains classroom environment, ensures children’s safety, establishes a positive environment for children and families.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of childhood education.

Knowledge of effective education tools and techniques for children.

Ability to instruct, lead, and motivate children in educational environments.

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, and parents.

Education and Experience - 

High school diploma or G.E.D

and

one year experience teaching school aged children basic academics,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - 

Valid State Driver's License.

First Aid and CPR certification.

45-hourDCF required school age training.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions - 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
