About this opportunity:

Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Conservatory theatre program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guides the work of theatre and performance in helping children and youth to succeed in school by increasing their involvement and motivation, and helping them to set personal goals.
  • Provides training and development of camper for theatre, public speaking, performance and service learning.
  • Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
  • Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
  • Prepares students for recitals and presentations.
  • Supervises the maintenance and daily operations of the program equipment.
  • Recommends and develops activities which will develop creative abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
  • Coordinates the program and activity with the policies and operating procedures of camp.
  • Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods.
  • Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
  • Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
  • Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
  • Schedules performances and ensures that all necessary supplies for a performance are donated or purchased.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Six months experience teaching theatre, with the ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Music Conservatory Theatre Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.  Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/3/2024 – 06/9/2024 and participation is required. The 2024 Summer Camp Program will be held 06/10/2024 – 07/13/2024. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
