Position Summary:

This position is entrusted with the responsibility to lead a team of engineering resources in supporting and fulfilling the project needs within a specific production facility.  The scope of projects will include: product launches, process development and lean work flow, equipment selection and deployment, safety and facility improvements and value engineering. The position will additionally be responsible to develop and deploy engineering standards in the specific production facility in conjunction with any corporate engineering standards that are in place. The position supports the Business Unit by executing the business plan for manufacturing implementations while monitoring and adjusting to adapt to changing technologies.  The position is a key technical resource to the organization and collaborates on significant projects. 


Experience and Knowledge Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from four-year college or university, OR Associate’s degree in an applicable technical field PLUS Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience, OR Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience, OR Combination of education and experience
  • Experience in leading a department of technical staff, is essential
  • Experience or Education in Lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience in furniture manufacturing would be helpful
  • Knowledge of wood and woodworking processes would be helpful
  • Knowledge of upholstery materials and processes would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services in direct support of manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Experience with multiple software packages would be helpful; AutoCad, Solidworks, Business ERP systems (Frontier)

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit in meetings or at a computer for 1--2 hours at a time.  This work will also require: climbing, bending, stooping, reaching, standing for long periods of time, walking, lifting fifty pounds or less, may require occasional heavy lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to work both in an office environment, as well as moving about and communicating on a shop floor production environment. Approximately 60% on the factory floor & 40% in the office environment.  Personal protective equipment such as eye protection and ear protection may be required in the shop floor environment.
