Job purpose/summary
The maintenance technician ensures the safe and effective maintenance of all plant mechanical equipment and systems in support of the Rawhide Energy Station. Regular work hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. with overtime work as assigned. This position requires the ability and willingness to respond expeditiously to plant emergencies when called and work extended hours on nights and weekends when needed.
This position may be subject to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and/or subject to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations.
Platte River is seeking to fill 3 openings for this role; this position will remain posted until all positions are filled.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Partners with others to improve organizational effectiveness by identifying strategies to resolve problems, improve team performance and effectiveness and develop people strategies that support the organization’s needs.
- Performs mechanical repairs on boilers, turbines, pumps, fans, combustion turbines, pollution control equipment, as well as coal, ash, and natural gas handling equipment.
- Accurately documents work procedures, parts used, time used, and tasks performed using computer-based maintenance systems.
- Research equipment malfunctions and obtains equipment information for repairs.
- Clearly communicates equipment status to peers, supervisors, and management.
- Reads, writes, and communicates highly technical information effectively using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Other functions
- Practice safety awareness and complies with safety standards set forth by the industry and Platte River Power.
- May require working in tight spaces, on ladders and elevated platforms or in inclement conditions such as hot and cold temperatures.
- May be required to use air purifying respirators.
- May operate overhead cranes with additional required training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ability to create and maintain positive professional relationships with all personnel.

- Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical prints and technical manuals.
- Ability to safely work around industrial equipment.
- Knowledgeable of industry safety procedures and protocol .
- Strong computer, math, reading, and writing skills.
- Ability to work weekends, nights, and overtime as assigned.
- Initiative to improve knowledge and skills through self-study.
- Experience with welding with stick, TIG, or MIG methods is preferred.
- Experience with combustion turbines and the associated equipment is preferred.
- Experience in rigging, overhead crane and fixed crane operation is preferred.
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma or its equivalent resulting in demonstrated ability to perform major duties is required.
- Completion of an appropriate mechanic's apprenticeship program is preferred.
Work experience
- Required: 5 years of experience in a large industrial machinery performing troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work.
- Required: Demonstrated technical mechanical background with experience in large heavy industrial equipment.
- Preferred: Machinery experience.
- Preferred: Mechanic experience working at a power plant.
- Preferred: Prior welding experience.
Licenses/certifications
- Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under Platte River’s vehicle liability policy is required.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand and walk. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
The following are required with the approximate requirements and % of time:
- Standing 50% of the time
- Walking 25% of the time
- Lifting to 60 lbs. at15% of the time Sitting 10% of the time
Work environment
This job operates inside and outside of a power plant environment.
- Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
- Work hours are typically Monday through Thursday, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with overtime work as assigned including plant emergencies and extended hours on nights and weekends when needed.
Hourly pay range for position: $43.13 - $48.52 (placement DOQ)
(range if annualized: $89,710 - $100,922)
