Director of Landscaping
 
 

Primary Responsibilities:   Direct the day-to-day operation of the landscape maintenance, pool and pond service for the resort and residential contracts.  Determine contract rates for services to generate revenue for the company and remain competitive. Review bids for projects from contractors and determine which bid is the most cost effective while meeting the company’s needs and standards.  Respond and resolve homeowner/guest or employee relation issues pertaining to the department.  Market services to homeowners and secure landscape, pool and pond maintenance contracts for the company.

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Prepare annual operating and CIP budget for the department
  2. Establish department policies, procedures and standards.
  3. Manage department following company policies, procedures and terms and conditions of the CBA.
  4. Determine contract rates for service provided by the grounds department to insure profitability for the company and remain competitive.
  5. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with homeowners and guests, homeowner associations, clients and vendors; provide timely responses to their concerns and questions.
  6. Provide accurate and timely billing information to accounting.
  7. Inspect resort grounds and other contracted areas to ensure that quality and standards of service is being met.
  8. Assure department is within OSHA standards and maintain safety policies and procedures.
  9. Review, approve and verify department payroll.
  10. Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel and discipline department staff.
  11. Responsible for the schedule, labor budget and department operating expense.
  12. Develop an inventory management system to effectively control and distribute supplies and equipment.
  13. Prepare reports and make recommendations on operational change and/or improvements.
  14. Ensure safety training and standards are maintained.
  15. Negotiate purchases with vendors to assure the best possible value.
  16. Review and approve all purchases for the department.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:

  1. Attend resort management/company meetings.
  2. Maintain department bulletin board.
  3. Conduct regular department meetings.

Working Conditions: 

  1. Ordinary office conditions
  2. Outdoors in various weather conditions
  3. Travel throughout the resort and hotel properties

Work Hours:

  1. Must be able to work the schedule designated by the President/Director of the company
  2. Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
  3. Must be able to work over 40 hours per week.

Equipment Use:

  1. Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resort’s word, spreadsheet and other required software.
  2. Ability to use the telephone
  3. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines.
  4. Ability to drive vehicle or cart to get around the resort.

Mental and Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
  2. Able to manage stressful and challenging situations.
  3. Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
  4. Able to sit at a desk to do administrative duties.

Communication Demands:

  1. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, managers, homeowners, vendors and guests.
  2. Ability to communicate over the phone.
  3. Ability to write manuals, memos, policies and procedures.
  4. Ability to review and negotiate contracts.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent in related work experience.
  2. Minimum 3 years related work experience.
  3. Pesticide Applicator’s license preferred.
  4. Skills to effectively supervise and manage a department and meet goals.
  5. Ability to analyze financial information
  6. Driver’s License
  7. Able to read landscape blueprints.
