Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Foreman or Lead Mechanic, the Senior Mechanic is a working position that uses their extensive Journeyman level knowledge and expertise to mentor junior technicians, troubleshoot complex issues, performs inspections, maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs of all vehicle component systems for the company’s fleet of motorcoaches and mini coaches.

 

Wages:

  • $35/hour to $47/hour 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Use extensive Maintenance knowledge to mentor junior technicians in their technical ability.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues with fleet vehicles.
  • Set up and operate vehicle systems testers and diagnostic equipment and other tools required for the trade.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of all vehicle systems, engine, transmission, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to read and understand schematics and diagrams, and other related service manuals.
  • Use knowledge of vehicle systems test equipment to inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, service, and repair all vehicle components.
  • Follow work procedures and checklists of each vehicle as directed.
  • Obtains description of vehicle problems to examine and investigate extent of damage. 
  • Collaborates with the Director to determine the type of work to be performed for service and repair.
  • Performs diagnostic tests using OEM diagnostic tools (e.g. Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Pro Driver).
  • Repairs vehicle chassis, electrical systems, HVAC systems, engine to include tune up and overhaul, transmission, brakes, or other equipment that is used within the Company’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Disassembles units and inspects parts for wear using designated tools.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the removal of hazardous waste materials and keeps the work area neat and clean.
  • Plans future repair requirements within an acceptable time frame.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures as advised.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational or technical school certification in the related work field preferred. ASE, ICAR or related certification preferred.

 

Experience:

  • At least ten (10) years of experience working in a heavy-duty fleet shop, and or automotive shop that specializes in light and heavy vehicle repair or related duties; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities has been achieved

 

Knowledge, Requirements & Skills:

  • Possess Journeyman level of expertise.
  • Able to use good judgment and sound decision-making while handling multiple situations.
  • Must be dependable and punctual to work as scheduled.
  • Possesses considerable working knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills which include speaking, writing clearly and communicating effectively.
  • Requires the ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to carry or lift objects that could weigh up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
  • Able to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Able to show initiative and complete tasks independently without supervision.
  • Possesses knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions within the field of work.
  • Possesses expert knowledge in operating a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Must possess a set of mechanic tools and tool chest.
  • Must possess a valid Hawaii driver’s license with current driver abstract history record.
