We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Director of Information Technology to lead our IT Department. Please note that this an exclusively on-site position based out of Newport News, VA with travel required within our service area. 

GENERAL FUNCTION:

 

Under the direction of the SVP/Chief Strategy Officer and in harmony with the mission and established purpose of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Director of Information Technology is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our organization's technology infrastructure, systems, and strategies. They will play a critical role in aligning technology solutions with our business goals to drive innovation, efficiency, and growth. The Director of Information Technology also manages and maintains the association’s technology assets. This includes managing, security, and administration of the local and wide area networks, physical and virtual server environment, cloud-based services, workstation hardware, software, and end-user support. It also includes support for Wi-Fi networks (both public and private), on-premise and VoIP, security cameras, and other applications in use by the Association. The Technology Advocate consults with and advises association leadership in areas of procurement and implementation of new and existing technologies. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. A solid understanding of network infrastructure, Microsoft Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2012/2019/2022), and associated services, including Active Directory, Office 365, Exchange Online, and other 365 services.
  2. The ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems related to any of the functional areas listed above and provide desktop support for end-users.
  3. The principal researches and implements new technologies and solutions to meet long-term goals.
  4. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  5. Certification in CPR/ First Aid/AED/02 required within 60 days of hire.
  6. Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
  7. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, credit check and Child Protective Services check.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional working environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
  • Develop strategies for using technology based on the association’s vision and goals to support the mission of the YMCA.
  • Serve as consultant and advisor to association leadership in areas of technology procurement and implementation. 
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in technology IT management and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Install and support network services such as email, virus scan, and other communications, operations, and administrative services. 
  • Plan and monitor security and reliability of services, including backup plans and disaster recovery.
  • Develop and monitor budgets related to information technology. Monitor the costs of maintaining and improving information systems, including equipment and software.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, service delivery, accessibility, and usability.
  • Ensure proper operating procedures regarding technology are in place and provide training as assigned.
  • Ensure training and support is provided to users.
  • Evaluate issues pertaining to information systems for strategic planning and innovation. Anticipates risk, implications, and possible outcomes before taking action.
  • Deliver technical support for YMCA technology through timely repair, preventative maintenance, and end-user support.
  • Provide regular reports to the supervisor on the status of projects, services, and contracts.
  • Manage the organization's local and wide-area computer network(s), including router and switch configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrading as necessary. 
  • Procure, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all association computer hardware and software.  Update or upgrade as necessary. 
  • Provide end-user support and training opportunities for staff to become proficient in their use of technology as it pertains to their job function.
  • Document the association’s computing environment for the transfer of administration.
  • Provide technology vision and leadership throughout the association to welcome center operations, ensuring a quality member experience at every center.
  • Supports, where applicable, all platforms used by the association.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and address technology needs and opportunities across the organization.

SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to isolate and repair hardware, software, or network problems with limited outside support. 
  • Previous professional and/or management level IT experience; understanding of technology needs and systems of a nonprofit organization.
  • Ability to research and implement new technologies and solutions.
  • Skills in problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to train and instruct users.
  • Ability to research and interpret technical documents for evaluation or troubleshooting.
  • Written and oral communication skills required to answer staff inquiries and correspond with outside vendors.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, including lifting PCs or monitors, climbing ladders, and mobility for travel to branches.

  1. This position provides quality control on the effectiveness and usefulness of all information systems.
  2. Issues involving computer and network equipment and software are managed to meet the association's needs per the purpose and mission of the YMCA. 
  3. The managed use of technology enables YMCA staff to serve our membership better.
