New Jersey Resources is seeking a SCADA Administrator responsible for building, enhancing, managing and supporting the Company’s real-time critical Infrastructure Networks (CIN) which support the New Jersey Natural Gas (“NJNG”) Pipelines and LNG plants. Implements, administers, maintains, and troubleshoots network, server, desktop, and communication links within all SCADA environments throughout NJR and its subsidiaries.


Major Responsibilities:

Acts as a liaison between Information Technology and Operational Technology teams

Oversees the technical aspect of Company SCADA Systems along with supporting all network, communications, remote workstations and company servers

Configures SCADA network accordance with Company, industry, and regulatory standards and/or contractual requirements

Provides first level of technical support for SCADA system operations including design, migration planning, database configuration, database integrity, network and system security, disaster recovery, system functionality, and field device protocol testing and maintenance

Works with NJNG Gas Control to determine the appropriate technical implementation of SCADA application requirements

Recommends risk mitigations including software and/or network architecture; implements mitigations as requested

Develops summaries and detailed reports of findings and associated risk assessments

Troubleshoots and keeps SCADA systems running at optimum levels, maximizing systems uptime.

Collaborate with the IT Security Group to stay current on cyber security best practices and third-party suppliers to develop cyber-secure solution for systems.

Develops and maintains documentation such as Test Plans, Procedures, User Manuals, Reference Guides, etc.

Ensures that security controls and standards like MFA, Patching, and Anti-Virus are maintained

Ensures that backups are maintained

Manages quarterly restores of backups to critical infrastructure systems and servers

Performs security enhancements and upgrades in production environments

Enforces and adheres to change control procedures

Reports problems and enhancement requests to application vendors

Maintains critical infrastructure application and environment accessibility, integrity, and recoverability

Resolves performance problems and recovers from system outages

Monitors system performance and participates in performance tuning activities

Maintains all Main Control Centers as well as Backup Control Centers

Works with the NJR Disaster Recovery Coordinator Team to ensure that SCADA DR procedures are in place, tested and in constant working order.

Works with team members to provide vision/direction for the advancement of SCADA control system capabilities.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Position Specifications

Bachelor’s degree or related experience in Information Technology. 

Professional certifications are a plus (MSCA, CCNA, CCNP)

Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience with SCADA, controls, instrumentation, or related field operations.

Excellent working knowledge of VMwar

Strong background in network design and security architecture using industry standards and best practices

Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers

Hands on experience building, securing, and supporting Microsoft Windows Active Directory, LDAP, Internet and network security technologies and protocols such as: TCP/IP, firewalls, routers, switches

Experience with network and security technologies such as proxy, VPN and remote access technologies

Experience in troubleshooting network connectivity issues

Experience with Wonderware System Platform and/or Emerson Control Systems is a plus

Ability to multi-task, analyze and solve problems quickly with attention to detail.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Experience working with vendors and consultants

Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products via documentation and internet resources

Ability to work with all levels of staff in and outside of IT and the organization.

Experience in the Utility industry and SCADA environments 

Valid Driver’s license as travel will be required from time to time based on the needs of the business
