Summary
Provide case management and crisis intervention to victims of family violence in the City of Temple.  The Case Managers provides supportive services and referrals to support safety and autonomy to victims in crisis.  Will work primarily in an office setting; performs occasional fieldwork and office visits with clients and be mobile throughout the City when necessary.  Must have availability to occasionally work flexible work schedule to include nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation.  This is a grant funded position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive individualized case management and advocacy services to participants including but not limited to intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, education on legal process, housing, and makes appropriate referrals
  • Ensures the crime victims receive notification and explanation of their rights as defined in Chapter 56A of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, including information regarding the Texas Crime Victims Compensation Program as outlined in Chapter 56B of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and any additional legislation associated with victims of crime
  • Assists victims with applying for appropriate local, state, and federal assistance, including protective order assistance
  • Assists with the completing, and submitting the necessary applications, forms, supporting documents, and continuing services, information and/or follow-up; accompanies and/or transport victims of crime as needed
  • Ensures that the agency is in legal compliance regarding the provision written notices and legal statutes involving law enforcement response to victims
  • Works closely with investigators and patrol by setting up appointments, interviews, conducting research and requests
  • Maintains up-to-date resources/referrals for police, victims of family violence; maintains records of any assistance and/or intervention offered/ utilized by victims; maintains detailed documentation on activities performed, service plans and participant data
  • Serves as liaison for victims, other agencies, and the District/County Victim Assistance Coordinators
  • Provides testimony in criminal and civil proceedings as required
  • Responds to emergency calls; assists in the activities of crisis intervention response teams
  • Assists with presenting grant proposal to Central Texas Regional Advisory Council
  • Develops, organizes, and conducts training to recognize and develop appropriate responses to victims of crime violence for law enforcement officers, support staff and community
  • Obtains/Maintains advocate credentialing through the National Advocate Credentialing Program and completes annual training as required by this program
  • Participates in community events associated with victim-service related activities and awareness
  • Attends and participates in monthly meetings, completing case reviews
  • Maintains the confidentiality of police records and investigations; ability to interact with the public, law enforcement officials, the media, victims, liaisons, co-workers in professional manner
  • Maintains good standing with local/state organizations; Bell County Crime Victims' Coalition (BCCVC), Central Texas Family Violence Task Force (CTFVTF), Texas Victim Services Association (TVSA), National Organization for Victim Advocacy (NOVA)
  • Operates in conformance with federal, state, and local laws; adheres to safety procedures
  • Follows both the City of Temple and the Temple Police Department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Social Services, Criminal Justice, or related area
  • One year of experience in case management or working with victims of crime
  • Pass extensive criminal background check, polygraph, and evaluation
  • General knowledge with Microsoft Office suite i.e., Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or Criminal Justice
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Texas Notary or the ability to obtain within 6 months from date of hire
  • National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP) or the ability to obtain within 1 year of date of hire
