Summary
Performs original cataloging of audiovisual and genealogy materials. Coordinates withdrawal of materials and deletion of records in collaboration with library staff. Oversees daily backup of records. Supervises and participate in inventory of collections, including assignment of collections to be inventoried and distribution of reports to department supervisors.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Catalogs library materials for all formats in compliance with national and local standards
  • Manages daily operations of assigned staff, projects, and/or work units
  • Interviews, selects, supervises, develops, counsels, and if necessary, disciplines direct reports
  • Provides training and guidance to the other technical services staff 
  • Resolves issues and effectively manages staff, customer, and/or vendor concerns professionally
  • Participates in strategic and long-range planning for the operation and future development of the library and technical services area
  • Acquires library materials in collaboration with library staff
  • Oversees the process related for ordering, receiving, and payment for library materials and resources
  • Leads and coordinates extended projects and cross-functional team efforts related to system-wide cataloging, reclassification, database maintenance, serials control, library materials processing, digital collections, and electronic resources
  • Creates, maintains, or processes statistics relating to library materials, material use, bibliographic and item records, and acquisitions
  • Performs administrative record keeping and reporting, including financial and activity reports and timesheets
  • Acts as a liaison with various vendors including, but not limited to, the ILS provider, e-content providers, and physical material vendors for books, audiobooks, and other circulating materials
  • Ensures training on new platforms and with new mediums is coordinated for library staff
  • Develops workflows to streamline the selection, acquisition, cataloging and processing of library materials and Interlibrary Loan service
  • Serves as Integrated Library System administrator 
  • Contributes to the maintenance of bibliographic, item, authority, order, and serial records
  • Develops and monitors Technical Services budget, expenditures, and priorities
  • Interprets library and city policies and procedures 
  • Ensures the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines are followed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a library 
  • One (1) years of supervisory experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Professional written and verbal communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science
  • Experience working with the age demographic for the assigned area
  • One (1) year of library programming experience 
  • Experience in grant writing 
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish
