Budget & Management Analyst

Annual Salary:  $56,014.40 - $64,334.40


Job Summary:  Complete analysis and recommendations on several major departmental budgets, complex public policy, fiscal and or performance management analysis studies and budget administration.  Analyze current and past budget and financial data to ensure fiscal goals and strategic objectives are met

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze departmental annual budgets and funds to support operations of Milwaukee County.
  • Analyze departmental strategies and performance measures and assist with performance management functions.
  • Prepares summarizations, comparative data, budget analysis sheets and related duties in conjunction with budget preparation and review.
  • Assist in certain processes related to the analysis and production of the overall Milwaukee County budget, such as budget summarization, budget amendments, and budget format and automation.
  • Review and analyze request for filling vacant positions, funder transfer, contingent fund allocations and other management and financial matters from selected departments and make recommendations regarding these requests.  Prepare special reports and research items as requested.

 

Minimum Education & Years of Experience Required: 

  • Current State of Wisconsin resident.
  • A valid state of Wisconsin driver’s license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.   
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business Accounting, Public Admn., Mgmt. or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in Budget and/or policy analysis
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • High volume and variable work demands and deadlines that impose strain on a routine basis; frequent direct contact with individuals or exposure to highly stressful situation, demands or pressures.

Note: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

Preferred Areas:

  • Master’s degree
  • Familiar with or experience in public sector budget & policy analysis
  • requires a strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Explain and gather information, answer queries, or provide assistance to internal and/or external contacts.

  • Speak effectively before both internal and/or external groups.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, scientific/technical journals and procedures, government regulations, financial and legal documents.
  • Makes decisions of responsibility involving evaluation of information; decisions may require development or application of alternatives or precedents.
  • Understand and follow instructions.
  • Execute decisions within limits of standard policy and procedures.
  • Interpret and adapt to established practices and procedures using independent judgement to met situations to which applications are not clearly defined.
