Desktop Support II

IMSD – Information Management Services Division

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Rate: $28.14 – $31.99

 

This position is for second shift and the hours are 3pm to 11:30pm.

Job Summary: 

The Desktop Support Technician serves as the first point of contact for IT related support, providing tier 1 & 2 client support for all technical issues relating to installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance, hardware, software, printing, connectivity, mobile technology, and user set up and authorization, also working all requests, incidents, and problems through to resolution. A critical role of the Desktop Support Technician will strive to provide the best possible end user computing experience for all Milwaukee County employees, contractors, and vendors.

Job Duties:

  • Desktop Support: Provide daily support for PC hardware and software, including current operating systems, Office 365, and other enterprise applications.
  • Special Assignments: Assist with planning, installation, troubleshooting and ongoing support of special projects. Assists with new and upgrade hardware and software installations.
  • Instruct and document end-user processes: Instruct users and document system use to ensure understanding of current systems, computer equipment and applications; answer questions and assist in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computer applications.
  • End User Customer relations: Ensure expectations are being met by communicating and maintaining key business relationships with other teams, departments, and vendors; Give feedback and recommendations to other internal teams to improve services and reduce desktop support requests.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Wisconsin resident at time of application.
  • Valid WI Driver’s License and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Associates Degree with at least two (2) year experience in Desktop Support and/or application support OR High School Diploma with at least four (4) years’ experience in Desktop Support and/or application support
  • Knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of office/customer service principles, methods, and practices; oral and written communication skills; analytical skills, skill in data entry and in using a personal computer.  Plan and work independently in a fast-paced environment; ability to exchange basic information with internal and/or external contacts. Must maintain sensitive or confidential information. Ability to make decisions of responsibility involving evaluation of information; decisions may require development or application of alternatives or precedents. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20lbs.
