Behavioral Health Clinician

Access Clinic South (1635 W. National Ave.)

Hourly Range: 25.72 to 38.82

1st Shift (8 am to 4:30 pm) M - F
 

SIGN ON BONUS $3,750

 

Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Clinician is a member of the Access Clinic team of psychiatrists, nurses, peer specialists and clinicians providing therapeutic support and follow up to Milwaukee County residents who are uninsured and/or in crisis. This licensed and master’s level clinician provides comprehensive assessment, therapeutic follow-up, de-escalation/stabilization, and linkage to resources for individuals seeking mental health support or experiencing a co-occurring mental health/substance use crisis.

 

Job Duties:

·        Conduct psychosocial assessment of adults in crisis managing mental health and co-occurring needs. Regularly evaluate dangerousness to self and others.

·        Provide therapeutic follow-up to adults navigating crises and address additional clinical issues as they arise, with regular assessment of risk. Follow-up will be focused on identified areas of crisis plan implemented, vetted, and proven therapeutic interventions.

·        Effectively manage behaviors or coping strategies of concern by therapeutic interventions, connecting to appropriate services and/or supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and/or the person is engaged in follow-up services.

·        Create crisis plan with input from client and support(s) (when indicated), focused on problem resolution and improved coping strategies. Safety planning will be in response to suicide screening and risk assessment, to identify supports and increased safety with lethal means

·        Consult supervisor, colleagues, and psychiatric team as clinically indicated to manage cases. Provide community and client/caregiver education regarding crisis management and mental health service. Participate in weekly supervision to manage caseload.

·        Document service delivery consistent with County, state, and licensing requirements. Documentation includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic follow-up sessions, contact with patient, crisis planning and management and resource linkage.

·        Participate in required clinic and Milwaukee County meetings to ensure continued dialogue with colleagues, as well as remain up to date on relevant issues that could impact clinic or communities served.

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·        Authorized to work in the United States; Wisconsin residency within six (6) months of hire date

·        Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable insured vehicle; both maintained throughout employment. Able to obtain a valid WI driver’s license within six (6) months of hire date

·        Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a closely related field required

·        Valid WISCONSIN State licensure, free of limitations, OR able to provide proof of passed licensure exam is REQUIRED in one of the following

o   Advanced Practice Social Workers (APSW)

o   Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or (LPC-IT)

o   Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

o   Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or (LMFT-IT)

·        At least three (3) or more of recent practical work experience in crisis services or clinical services

·        Able and willing to travel, within community, up to 5% of work time

·        Able to lift/pull up to 25lbs as needed

Sign on bonus paid during the first year of employment. First half paid after successful completion of six-month probationary period from date of hire. Second half paid out at one-year anniversary. Current Milwaukee County Employees are NOT eligible for new hire sign on bonus. Former Milwaukee County employees are also not eligible for the sign on bonus unless they left Milwaukee County service five or more years prior to the new hire date.

 

Note:  This original examination is open to anyone authorized to work in the United States. Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of appointment. In accordance with Rule III Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
