Community Intervention Specialist

Hourly Range:  $26.04 - $30.33

Job Summary: The Community Intervention Specialist (CIS) supports the DHHS Children, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) and Housing service areas and will report to the CYFS. This position serves as primary contact for both service areas to work collaboratively with partners in the local violence reduction efforts, to provide housing and youth justice involvement navigation, connection to services as well as neighborhood violence response coordination. The CIS is responsible of working with community members, partners, and stakeholders across Milwaukee County.

 

Job Duties:

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with community partners and stakeholders by leading community engagement and outreach activities. Communicate and collaborate with members of the community and partners in the violence reduction efforts. Serves as first point of contact for community members to assist with services and interventions in community programs.  Coordinate violence response efforts within DHHS and partners to lead community crisis response efforts.
  • Collect, retrieve, interpret, and maintain data for reporting purposes, as well as to provide up-to-date and accurate data to violence reduction partners.  Write and submit reports as requested related to violence reduction efforts.  Identify trends and incidents. Coordinate enhanced efforts and responses with other partners.
  • Provide assistance to Housing and CYFS leadership team for special projects and the development of policies, protocols; implementation and management of projects assigned. Establish relationships with all violence reduction partners. Identify resources and unmet needs in the community. Coordinate from a public health and community response perspective.
  • Provide advocacy and mediation, serve as liaison with property managers. Assist with housing search and placement assistance. Leverage supportive services and needs for those involved in youth justice system, in need of housing, behavioral health services, etc.  Support the connection of individuals with appropriate services in the community and through DHHS.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • This position requires you to have completed the vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of a completed vaccination as a condition of employment or submit a completed medical or religious exemption and accommodation request form
  • Current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
  • Current Wisconsin Driver's License maintained throughout employment.
  • Advanced knowledge of all related computer, MS office products, data collection and reporting is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MC Access, Database Concepts and Reporting software required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Management or Community Relations field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in case management, crime analysis, youth justice or housing services role is required.
  • At least six (6) months of experience working with data entry policy and procedures is required.
  • At least Intermediate knowledge of all computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to travel extensively, up to 20% of work time, within the community

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of youth justice, housing programs and HUD regulations as they relate to homelessness and income guidelines; knowledge of available housing resources; knowledge of the permanent supportive housing model; knowledge of case management; knowledge of violence reduction efforts; ability to work with individuals with a wide range of needs; ability to push, pull, lift, carry up to 10lbs as needed.
