Hourly Range: $22.64 - $35.52

JOB SUMMARY:  The Construction Coordinator provides technical support related to construction, engineering, and architecture within the Airport Engineering group of Milwaukee County. The Construction Coordinator works closely with project managers to ensure the successful completion of projects ranging from $50,000 to $50,000,000. Typical duties include: ensuring contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications; scope, schedule, budget, and quality control; stakeholder coordination; preparation of technical documents, reports, plans, and studies.



  • Construction Administration – Communication.  Represent the airport’s interests during the construction phase of a project. Provide timely communication with the contractor, project manager, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of project scope, schedule, budget, and quality. Communications range from leading progress meetings, to developing technical reports, preparing daily logs, making phone calls, and sending text messages. Maintain a focus of delivering superior customer service.
  • Construction Administration – Contract Compliance.  Ensure contract compliance through schedule tracking, inspections, quantity measurement, testing, and other means. Prepare and track construction bulletins, requests for information, change orders, payment application and other contract documents. Support project closeout tracking and documentation.
  • Construction Administration – Field Coordination.  Coordinate field work. Work with airport operations and other stakeholders to prepare for daily construction work. Coordinate airfield closures. Coordinate and direct work from third party vendors such as testing or surveying firms.
  •  Airport Engineering Technical Support.  Support the planning and design phases of projects. Prepare technical reports. Prepare figures using CAD and GIS. Conduct field instigations. Gather historic documentation, plans, and other data. Support the development of cost estimates.
  • Project Portfolio Support.  Support project portfolio management. Support project and portfolio managers in regular project reporting, data collection, and analysis.
  • Teamwork promote teamwork and a culture of collaboration. Work effectively in a matrix environment where lines or reporting are mixed. Provide lessons learned, and continuously improve construction management maturity withing Milwaukee County and Mitchell Airport.



  • Current resident of the State of Wisconsin
  • Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Possession of a valid State of Wisconsin Driver’s License or obtain within 6 months of hire date and maintained throughout employment.
  • Five or more years of practical work experience in engineering, architecture and/or construction.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to navigate and input project data into project management and compliance software.
  • Routine shifts hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
  • Intermittent or cyclical work pressures with occasional exposure to high stress work environments.


Preferred Areas:

  • A.S or B.S. in Construction, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management or similar
  • Certificate in construction management or project management


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineer/architectural construction management and project scheduling; oral and written communication skills, skill interpreting and administering plan documents and contracts; skill reading and understanding construction documents, skill in analyzing cost estimates; skill in using phones, tablets, laptops, levels and tape measures; ability to work independently; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with client departments, outside consultants, municipal engineering departments, developers, engineers, contractors and the general public.
