SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

Under the general guidance of the Director of Engineering & IT, this position’s role is to oversee all aspects of New Product Development for the programs to which they are assigned.  This individual will generally work independently, taking direction from Maysteel Customers, our own Business Development group and our Operations Groups for specific activities.  This individual will be an internal champion of the Maysteel NPD Process.  The Program Engineer will have a close working relationship with our Tech Center and Tool Room groups.  They will also be directly involved in Engineering Services engagements with our Customers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Plans and oversees implementation of programs, making sure they stay within stipulated budget and ensure implementation of project is geared towards customer satisfaction.
  2. Acts as leader for Program Team making sure that time, risks, costs, quality and project resources are utilized efficiently.
  3. Attends internal and customer meetings. Manages entire program review process - holds team accountable and ensures projects fall within scope of program.
  4. Coordinates new program/project through production readiness or project completion (either product or task specific).
  5. Generates capital equipment justification.  Manages and reports on project expenses and progress.
  6. Coordinates preparation of project timelines and allocation of resources (internal departments, external suppliers and customers).
  7. Coordinates communication with all key stakeholders. Communicates team’s progress to business leadership.
  8. Drives robust “home-away” process and team communication between sites, regions, and functions.
  9. Works with Finance Team to analyze cost drivers and validate actual versus standard cost.
  10. Coordinates, prepares, and validates Phase Gate specific deliverables as directed
  11. Leads problem solving and failure analysis discussions.  Takes a leadership role in resolving multiple complex engineering problems simultaneously in a team environment
  12. Leads Team effort to develop capable, cost effective manufacturing and assembly processes concurrent to product design activities
  13. Insures robust processes are delivered to Operations
  14. Interacts with Business Development Managers to meet the specifications and needs of the customer in the development of new products
  15. Leads the Design Review process for new products
  16. Proactively compiles, prepares and presents data for timely project updates and technical presentations to staff and/or senior management
  17. Assists in maintaining engineering 3D models, BOM’s and drawings throughout the Product Lifecycle.
  18. Assists CAD Designers to analyze and implement customer revisions of current products.  Maintains and updates Engineering Release Notification process
  19. Provides technical assistance to other departments as necessary.
  20. Performs additional projects, tasks, and/or assignments as necessary

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering and minimum 3-4 years experience in Manufacturing Product Development Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Cross-functional product development/ program management experience required
  • Familiarity with Advanced Failure Analysis and scientific problem solving concepts, including FEA, FMEA, DOE, QFD, and DFMA
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze product designs (sketches/prints/models)
  • Above-average verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft’s Office Productivity Suite required
  • Experience in Pro-E and/or SolidWorks 3D modeling required.  Certification in either format is a plus
  • Sheet metal design experience is required
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to approximately 15% of the time, both domestically and internationally
  • Ability to effectively work with customers from different cultures/countries
  • CSWPA-SM  a plus
