SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

This position is responsible for measurement, testing and analysis of products and processes, from Receiving Inspection through final Out-of-Box audits.  The position will develop part specific inspection plans as well as collect and enter data from various sources, such as Outgoing Quality Audits (OQA), Out-of-Box Audits (OBA) and Capability Studies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Reads and interprets customer and internal prints to determine requirements for inspection.  Ability to communicate this information effectively to shop supervisors and operators.

 

  1. Determines critical to function points and other quality criteria for new/existing products based on the fabrication process and part design.

 

  1. Performs First Article Inspections / Capability Studies and completes required documentation.

 

  1. Records inspection data, applying statistical quality control procedures, and analyzes data for trends.  Uses analysis to initiate corrective action and continuous improvement and technically assists in the implementation of corrective actions.

 

  1. Maintains departmental records such as Part History and Inspection files.

 

  1. Inspects products at time of receipt and at various points during production for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, etc., utilizing equipment such as micrometer, caliper, CMM, Brown & Sharpe, and Fabrivision.

 

  1. Collects and enters data into computer, prepares charts and graphs of data for analysis.

 

  1. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

 

  1. Trains and oversees work of Quality Assurance Technicians.  Trains operators in quality requirements and inspection techniques.

 

  1. Performs routine calibration and cleaning of hand tools and gages, recording all calibrations on PC software.

 

  1. Works within team environment to facilitate improvements on procedures, product enhancements, cost reduction studies, and defect investigation and correction.

 

  1. Supports and communicates Quality Objectives to Operations and Engineering.

 

  1. Completes discrepancy reports and Return Material Authorization forms.

 

  1. Monitors and reports on QA Hold Area.  Participates in MRB meetings.

 

  1. Determines disposition, generates reports and provides follow-up on rejected parts.

 

  1. Performs audits (ISO internal, supplier, etc.) and prepares required follow up documentation.

 

  1. Assists in preparing Work Instructions and updating ISO Systems.  Also generates reports, forms, visual aids, data collection sheets and other correspondence as required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

 

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college / technical school or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Desirable Certifications:  Maysteel Auditor Certification, ASQ CQT, CQA or CQE Certification(s)

 

SCOPE:

 

This position reports to the Quality Leader/Manager and has no direct reports.

 

The position requires occasional travel (3-4 times per year) to customer or supplier sites.  Travel to customer sites may require heavier lifting or other activities associated with sorting and/or reworking product.

 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from production groups.

 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
