SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION:

 

This description summarizes the requirements of a Technician-level employee performing in the Tool and Die classifications. The employee will perform operations necessary to develop and prototype new products or experimental processes.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Maintain safe work environment (i.e., use of proper personal protective equipment, proper lifting techniques, etc.).
  • Inform management or lead of any part or equipment defects to ensure prompt response to the problem.
  • Assist Engineering and Operations Departments in transitioning products through design, prototype, pre-production, and full production phases. Familiarize yourself with the tools, instrumentation and calibration equipment.
  • Ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Select materials required, plan & machine to exacting dimensional requirements. 
  • Perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter or repair tools, dies, jigs & fixtures, gauges and samples in support of production. 
  • Assist in developing processes, fixtures and tooling through all phases of development and production.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Perform advanced quality inspections including blueprint reading, hand inspection methodology, Coordinate Measuring Machine and SPC (data interpretation/process evaluations).
  • Take instructions from the managerial/supervisory personnel.
  • Work from routings, manufacturing instruction sheets, blueprints, visual aids, or other instructions to manufacture product at required quality levels. 
  • Set-up and operate a variety of machine tools to perform standard machining practices.
  • Design and build all types of fixtures.
  • Assist in instructing and training other employees within the department. 
  • Use Epicor ERP to log into and out of jobs.
  • Design drawings or sketches as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

 

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalency.   

Current and valid weld certifications a plus.

Ability to apply concepts of complex algebra and geometry.

Associate Degree in a related field or the equivalent experience is desired.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift, carry, push, pull, grip, and grasp up to 35 lbs. Employees also frequently bend, twist, and reach and may stand and/or walk up to 8-10 hours per day. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Job consists of working in a manufacturing facility. Job could consist of making changes by hand or by running machinery equipment.
