Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Flow Cytometry, Flow Cytometry Specialist IV is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility.  The Flow Cytometry Core Facility provides cell-sorting and analysis services to the whole institute, as well as Kyowa Hakko Kirin, and other LJI collaborators.  The Flow Cytometry Specialist IV supports facility staff with calibration, operation, and maintenance of all sorters and analyzers. The Flow Cytometry Specialist IV is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to new and existing facility users. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works under guidance of the Director of Flow Cytometry; must be able to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Provides assistance to other Flow Cytometry Specialists and Director of Flow Cytometry.
  • All duties and responsibilities of Flow Cytometry Specialist III.
  • Perform daily calibration, operation, shutdown, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all sorters and analyzers.
  • Perform low, medium, and high-speed bulk and custom multi-parameter cell sorting of various cell lines and cell types from murine and human tissue/organs.
  • Weekly decontamination of all sorters and monthly cleaning of all analyzers.
  • Weekly/monthly data archive, database management, defragmentation of all sorters and analyzers.
  • Update instrument configurations and re-define baseline on all sorters and analyzers based on new bead lots and newly released fluorochromes.
  • Work closely with BD service engineers to expedite service and minimize downtime.
  • Assist in confirming charges/compiling data for monthly chargeback reports.
  • Maintain facility reference documents for users to access facility information. 
  • Assist facility users in multi-parameter data acquisition and analysis using various software including: Diva, CellQuest Pro, and FlowJo.
  • Provide training, guidance, and assistance to new and existing facility users regarding experimental design, protocols, instrument operation and advanced data analysis.

Leveling Requirements 

Candidates must have:

  • A high school diploma, AA degree, or equivalent experience with a scientific background.  
  • Ability to work flexible hours.  

Preferred qualifications:

  • BS in science degree preferred with 7-10 years relevant work experience.
