Postdoctoral position - T cell Responses against Viral infections (Sette Lab)

9420 Athena Cir, La Jolla, CA 92037, USA Req #249
Thursday, January 27, 2022

A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available immediately at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology to work with Dr. Alba Grifoni and Dr. Alessandro Sette, who are interested in understanding human T cell reactivity against emerging infectious diseases caused by viral infections.

Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary group of researchers with a strong sense of collaboration dedicated to the identification and characterization of T cell responses against a variety of Coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2.

For more information see:

1. Targets of T Cell Responses to SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus in Humans with COVID-19 Disease and Unexposed Individuals (DOI: 10.1016/j.cell.2020.05.015)

2. Comprehensive analysis of T cell immunodominance and immunoprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 epitopes in

COVID-19 cases (DOI: 10.1016/j.xcrm.2021.100204)

3. SARS-CoV-2 vaccination induces immunological T cell memory able to cross-recognize variants from Alpha to Omicron (DOI: 10.1016/j.cell.2022.01.015).

Our research is focused on identifying T cell immune responses by studying blood samples (PBMC) from individuals previously exposed to viral infections or vaccinated. The T cell responses are analyzed as a whole or more in-depth by reaching the single epitope level. Both approaches leverage tools of bioinformatics-based epitope predictions.

Methods frequently used in this research include isolating and culturing different primary cells of the immune system as well as FluoroSPOT, FACS, and intracellular cytokine staining. Bioinformatics analysis experience is a plus with particular focus on T cell prediction and dimensionality reduction analyses.
