RE Tech Advisors is currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and passionate Associate Manager, CRE ESG Programs to support a large institutional real estate investor and their European portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing ESG advisory firm to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future This position reports to an ESG Program Manager and will assist them in managing the client relationship, program, budget, and team, learning how to become an ESG Program Manager. If you have worked in a consulting firm on ESG and sustainability and have had some experience with client management and task delegation or if you have had program management experience in an unrelated field and have transitioned into ESG or Sustainability field, this may be the position for you.  RE Tech Associate Managers are anticipated to be in this role for one year of training, on average, and then advance to the ESG Program Manager position.
We prefer the position to be based out of our headquarters office in Tysons Corner, VA; however, we will consider qualified remote candidates. RE Tech supports a hybrid work model with flexible work schedules that include a mix of in office and work from home. 

Job Summary:

  • Bachelor's degree (Concentration in Energy Resources, Sustainability, Business, or related field).
  • 4-8 years of work experience, of which at least 1-2 in a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience assisting Managers with program management tasks or people management administrative tasks such as overseeing work, motivating staff, setting goals, providing feedback, or managing budgets.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience supporting the development and administration of successful sustainability, ESG, energy and/or emissions reduction programs across multiple building portfolios, with expertise in one or more commercial sectors: multifamily, retail, warehouse, senior care, medical office, and hospitality. 
  • Experience in sustainability strategies and energy efficiency technologies for existing buildings.
  • Possess a deep understanding of analytical measures and be able to direct the writing of reports to include details and summaries that identify and recommend operational best practices, with a focus on low and no cost strategies.
  • Experience managing junior team members to complete tasks on client projects on time and within budgeted time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead portions of internal and client meetings.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment, to ensure client and internal needs are being met in a timely manner.
  • Possess sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Ability to manage up, down, and across the organization, as well as outside clients and vendors.
  • Superior interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude. Ability to manage challenging interpersonal situations, including employee and client relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, programs, and priorities at the same time.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing landscape and client needs, being able to pivot and adjust priorities and approaches.
  • An understanding of the importance of continuous learning, self-awareness, owning mistakes and continuous improvement.

Essential Job Functions: 
  • Work with Program Manager to support multiple client sustainability programs that support RE Tech’s multiple lines of business, including leading environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programs for our real estate investment management clients.
  • Contribute to strategy development and implementation of client programs that include a range of program components to include, but not limited to:
    • Utility data collection, benchmarking and tracking in EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool, as well as client third party data management providers.
    • Monitor, track, and report on property performance (energy, water, and waste).
    • Identification and deployment of appropriate energy efficiency and sustainability measures, to include low and no cost strategies as well as CapEx projects.
    • Third party reporting, such as GRESB, CDP, and GHG inventories as well as CSR and ESG reports.
  • Support the Program Manager in program implementation including program design, securing client buy-in and approval, tracking, execution, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, program evaluation and refinement.
  • Engage with clients in close coordination with the Program Manager. Build and maintain key customer relationships to create opportunities for both short- and long-term client growth. Visit client sites as needed to meet with the client or assist with overseeing work of our project team.
  • Actively engage in strategic analysis, planning, and execution on client program activities.
  • Increasingly take on project team leadership roles and responsibilities. Direct, oversee, and support your project team working on client engagements.
  • Regularly review client deliverables for quality control and budget accountability, ensuring the work is accurate, on time, on budget and meets the client’s needs. Correct the work of junior team members and provide feedback. 
  • Train to take on supervisor responsibilities of one or more direct reports. Successful candidates may take on direct supervisor responsibilities in this role depending on past experience or demonstrated ability. Contribute to junior team members’ performance development and review process. Evoke creative and innovative thinking from team members while helping them to develop their skills and achieve career goals.
  • Learn all aspects of consulting contracts and proposals and begin to manage these processes under the oversight of senior team members, including marketing, scope development, proposal writing and budgeting, project execution, budget tracking, and supervision of staff.
  • Support review of employee time and project invoicing. 
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

Additional desired skills and experience:
  • Specify in your cover letter and application if you have experience in one or more of the areas listed below. 
    • An understanding of energy management, program design, and account management, with knowledge in the real estate industry.
    • Experience working with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programs, preferably in the real estate investment management industry.
    • Familiarity with industry reporting frameworks such as GRESB, CDP, UN PRI, or TCFD.
    • U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® experience is preferred.
    • Knowledge or insight into business drivers and material ESG aspects that improve business, investment, and real estate financial performance.
    • Experience with greenhouse gas inventories and carbon management strategies, including carbon neutrality or net zero programs.
    • Knowledge of energy efficiency and renewable energy financing, including financing mechanisms, major players, and market trends
