VarcoMac is seeking a talented individual for the position of Senior Accountant to join our team. The potential candidates for this position are detail oriented with a high level of understanding in accounting. Experience in a Big Four accounting firm is ideal, along with experience with auditing. Candidates must be very well organized with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high output in a fast-paced environment. This position would require someone to be in the office in Odenton, MD at least 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Perform monthly analysis of balance sheet and income statement.
  • Assist with annual audit preparations.
  • Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies and issues of non-compliance.
  • Prepare monthly reports for collections, billings, and work orders.
  • Assist in the WIP monthly reporting process.
  • Participate in the annual budget process.
  • Perform ad hoc requests from management and corporate.
  • Perform internal audit of job and work order revenue.
  • Assess internal controls including risk assessments.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules.
  • Participate in monthly collection meetings.
  • Prepare and file project tax exemptions documents.
  • Perform monthly analysis of labor, utilization, and PTO.
  • Assist in system conversions.
  • Audit financial transactions and documents.
  • Work closely with Controller.

Requirements and skills:

  • At least three years of combined work experience as an accountant and senior accountant working in public or corporate accounting. Experience in the construction industry is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or finance is required. CPA is a plus.
  • MS excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including GAAP.
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
  • Work effectively with accounting team, management, project account managers.
  • Produce timely and accurate accounting reports.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
