Culture and Diversity Reporter
Culture and diversity reporter
The Wisconsin State Journal, south-central Wisconsin's leading news source, is looking for a curious and driven reporter to cover culture and diversity issues in Madison and the surrounding area.
This reporter would be immersed in communities throughout the Madison area to better understand the issues and highlight the successes of each diverse neighborhood. We’re looking for someone who is willing to listen and learn, a strong writer to craft a compelling profile or culture story and a digger who can discern trends and uncover stories of inequity and abuse of power. We are seeking someone with a solid perspective on diverse, inclusive and equitable issues and can help provide fair and balanced coverage of our expanding communities.
The Wisconsin State Journal is committed to covering all residents of south-central Wisconsin, and this reporter would help lead efforts to build relationships and trust in the community.
The ideal candidate will juggle daily stories, enterprise stories and data-driven projects that have the power to change the Madison area. Madison regularly makes Top 10 lists and it’s no surprise. It’s a special city with natural beauty, a vibrant food and entertainment scene and the endless opportunities for outdoor recreation.
This is a beat that will require a self-starter who regularly pitches ideas and imagines new ways to cover a community. At least three years reporting experience preferred. To be considered for the position, apply online at www.madison.com/workhere by July 18, 2022. Please include a cover letter and five samples of your work or links to five recent stories.
