SUMMARY

Investigate and evaluate auto accident claims involving third party property damage claimed against a Landstar entity, reaching a fair and equitable resolution considering all available related factual material.                                  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Review receipt of first notice of accident and input into claims system

Verify applicable insurance coverage and code accordingly

Obtain pertinent company and driver documents

Establish and set reasonable initial and updated reserve for anticipated or submitted claims based on available accident information, investigation or liability assessment

Conduct investigative activity on facts related to the occurrence and parties involved including contacting the BCO driver or team witnesses and unrepresented claimants

Incorporate applicable rule of negligence in liability evaluations based on jurisdiction of accident

Obtain police reports through approved vendors or directly from law enforcement agencies

Assign Independent Adjusters where necessary to conduct specific limited field investigation which may include photos, identification of witnesses, statements, etc.

Assign appraisers as needed to establish related damages, repair or replacement costs

Approve the use of rental vehicles, where justified, managing the appropriate rental costs and period of use

Mitigate claim costs by working closely with appraisers, body shops, repair facilities, tow companies, storage yards and other vendors

Evaluate potential exposure, make a liability assessment and determine an appropriate resolution

Obtain and document settlement or other authority from management where required

Respond timely to arbitration filings against a Landstar entity

Report injury claims, litigation or threat of litigation to management for handling or re-assignment

Document all factual claim activity in the company's electronic claims management system through notes, diaries and attachments

Review and approve related/justified claim expense invoices matching same against work

Submit information to ISO, OFAC, MVTIS, etc., and review outcomes for action required

Verify proper claimant ownership documents prior to issuing liability payments

Obtain Property Damage releases for agreed and approved settlement of final damages

Process valid and approved liability settlement payments and expense transactions

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel

Familiarity with claims processing systems

Excellent oral and written communication skills

General knowledge of auto insurance coverage

Negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Knowledge of rules, regulations and laws applicable to auto and transportation liability claims

Familiarity with common legal terminology

Possess a basic understanding of tort law, various rules of negligence, measure of damages, releases, statutory and general claims handling practices
Must be licensed in the state of Florida

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma required with evidence of continuing education

Associates degree from a two-year college or other higher learning; preferred

                     Minimum of two years related experience and/or training
