SUMMARY

Investigate and evaluate auto accident claims involving third party property damage, reaching a fair and equitable resolution considering all available factual material, applicable laws, rules and regulations.                                              

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review initial accident/incident details, parties and damages involved
  • Verify applicable insurance policy and coverage code
  • Obtain pertinent company and driver documents
  • Conduct investigative activity confirming accident facts, including police report.
  • Interview involved parties, witnesses and unrepresented claimants
  • Incorporate applicable rule of negligence in liability evaluations based on jurisdiction
  • Establish reserves based on available claim information, investigation and liability assessment
  • Comply with state specific rules and regulations
  • Maintain multi-state licensing, CE credits and stay current with industry developments
  • Submit required information to ISO, OFAC, NMVTIS, etc., and review for action
  • Comply with the company's policies, practices, and procedures 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and PDF document formats
  • Familiarity with electronic claims processing systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sound negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • Possess a general understanding of tort law, various rules of negligence, measure of damages, releases, statutory & general claims handling practices
  • An understanding of electronic discovery and preservation of evidence
  • A general understanding of auto liability, general liability, physical damage insurance coverage 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma required with evidence of continuing education
  • Associates degree from a two-year college or other higher learning preferred
  • Minimum of two years related experience                                                    
    • Florida adjuster license required
    • Additional state licenses will be obtained 

ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Determine need for Independent Adjusters to conduct specific field investigation
  • Approve rental vehicles, where justified, managing the appropriate rental costs and period
  • Communicate with appraisers, repair facilities, tow companies, storage yards, rental companies and other vendors to confirm related damages, repair or replacement costs, or other expenses
  • Form a liability assessment and determine an appropriate resolution
  • Obtain and document settlement or other authority from management where required
  • Verify proper claimant ownership documents prior to issuing payment
  • Respond timely to arbitration filings and other legal documents
  • Report injury claims, litigation or threat of litigation to management for handling or re-assignment
  • Review related/justified claim expense invoices
  • Obtain releases for approved settlements, where required
  • Process valid or approved settlement payments and expense transactions
  • Identify potential fraud indicators and report same to manager for potential SIU assignment
