Kendall Vegetation Services has been in business for over 60 years and provides full-service vegetation management for the Utilities industry in 14 states. Starting as a commercial tree trimming company, we also provide services such as storm and emergency restoration, line clearance, herbicide application, and transmission right-of-way maintenance and mowing.

The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic performs general maintenance and mechanical work on the company’s equipment fleet in the field.
 
Essential duties include: 
 

•    Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment including gas and diesel, medium and heavy-duty trucks including CDL vehicles, Bucket Trucks, Large Trucks, Chip Trucks, Pick-Up Trucks, Aerial Lifts, Brush Chippers, Mobile Equipment, and Small Engine equipment including but not limited to Stump Grinders, Chainsaws, and Blowers
•    Diagnose issues and make all necessary repairs to include the replacement of worn or damaged parts
•    Provide regular servicing of heavy equipment to include using jacks, cranes, and various hand-held tools to dismantle and reassemble parts
•    Make adjustments of engines as well as any additional assemblies such as gear transmissions and hydraulics
•    Examine critical parts and operating components of heavy equipment for possible wear and tear, defects, or other damage with use of specialized tools and own knowledge and expertise
•    Test equipment and machines on a regular schedule to ensure they are operating efficiently and safely
•    Maintain and document routine maintenance checks and required inspections including DOT
•    All other duties as assigned

 
Specific requirements include:
•     At least 5 years of relevant experience
•    Prior experience in mechanical repairs, gas/diesel engines, electronics, and hydraulics on fleet vehicles
•    Must have a working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines
•    Must possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
•    Automotive Service Excellence Mechanics Certification (A.S.E Certification)
•    Certification for Fleet Repairs / Maintenance
•    Certification for Welding
•    Certification for Aerial Device Repairs / Maintenance
•    Must possess knowledge of the hazards of all equipment commonly used in tree care
•    Must possess his/her own tools needed to repair equipment
•    Must be able to operate the type of machinery being worked on
•    Must be able to bend, crawl, and work in tight spaces
•    Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
•    Must be able to wear necessary PPE as per task assigned
•    Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day
•    Must be able to read, write, and comprehend verbal and written and verbal job instructions / information
